3BL Content Editor: Formatting, Media & HTML Specifications

This guide provides a comprehensive overview of how the editor works, what it supports, and how to maximize performance and discoverability using structured content.

This guide provides a comprehensive overview of how the editor works, what it supports, and how to maximize performance and discoverability using structured content.

The 3BL Editor is a structured, HTML-based publishing environment. Formatting is not decorative — it is a technical decision that affects how content is rendered, indexed, and distributed.

Character Limits

  • Headline: 255 characters
  • Subheadline: 255 characters
  • Body: No limit
  • Short teaser previews (email distribution): 280 characters

Supported HTML Elements

Content Sanitization & Unsupported Elements The editor automatically removes unsupported or unsafe elements, most commonly:

  • Special characters, emojis, math symbols
  • <div> (except for specific oEmbed use cases)
  • <span>
  • <video>
  • <audio>
  • <iframe>

Before vs After: Enhanced Formatting Example The following example illustrates how structured formatting with multimedia improves clarity, rendering consistency, and semantic hierarchy – overall improving how readers interpret the story.

Rich Content & Performance Considerations Rich content is more than just visual enhancement, it affects rendering behavior, how information is consumed by search engines, accessibility, and consistency distributed across channels.

  • Your headline should clearly communicate what the content is about in less than 60 characters.
  • Use the description to add context about why this topic matters and why your organization is positioned to speak about it.
  • Within the content, the first header (H1) should mirror your headline, using words that communicate authority or nod toward search intent where relevant (i.e., “how,” “why,” “answered,” “explained”).
  • Secondary headers (H2, H3) help break up your content and transition from one topic to the next, which is more readable to robots than a long block of text.
  • Keep each section modular, using short and self-contained sections with one clear idea to avoid long, blended paragraphs covering multiple topics.
  • Add descriptive alt text to images to help visually impaired readers and AI systems interpret the visuals you use.

New Editor Powers Richer Brand Storytelling

Today’s audiences make snap judgments — and corporate content is competing with everything else in their feed. The brands that earn attention are the ones that make it easy for people to connect, stay engaged, and take action. Why engaging content performs Engaging content:

  • Keeps people reading longer
  • Increases click-through and sharing
  • Builds trust through clarity and transparency
  • Makes complex topics easier to understand

What “engaging” really means (in practice) Engaging doesn’t mean flashy or loud. That’s why we’ve upgraded our editor infrastructure to support richer multimedia content. This update is designed to give customers the creative flexibility to build more compelling stories — while ensuring reliable distribution across endpoints. Importantly, the upgrade is behind-the-scenes: published stories will look the same today along with the experience. But the foundation is now in place to support mixed media moving forward.

If you’re looking for ways to increase engagement and improve performance, this editor upgrade is just the beginning. We’ll continue expanding what customers can do with content in 2026. Reach out to your Customer Success Manager for multimedia best practices and enablement.

Introducing AI Content Tracking: See How LLMs Interact With Your Stories

As more audiences turn to AI assistants instead of traditional search engines, the way content is discovered is changing. Stories are no longer only surfaced through keywords — they’re increasingly being pulled directly into large language model (LLM) experiences like ChatGPT, Gemini, and others. That shift raises a big question for communicators: how visible is your content inside AI? What’s New: AI Crawler Traffic Reports We’ve released an update to our content analytics that helps you understand how LLMs interact with your content across two dimensions:

  • Indexing visibility — see which models are pulling in your content (and which aren’t).
  • AI impressions — measure how many times your content is surfaced inside AI-powered experiences via impressions and how many times a user has viewed the content via page views.

Together, these metrics provide the first window into your AI visibility footprint. Why It Matters This update lays the foundation for AIO (AI Optimization) — the next evolution of SEO. Just as organizations once optimized content for search engines, now is the time to understand how your stories appear inside generative AI experiences. By tracking where your content is indexed, how often it appears, and identifying gaps, you can strategically improve discoverability and authority in these new discovery channels. 3BL clients can explore their AI content tracking here.
